My name is Mrs. Keeffe and I have the pleasures of teaching art to your children at Hanover. Art has been my passion since a young child and therefore to become an art teacher was like finding a piece of the puzzle that fit perfectly.
My philosophy to teaching art is based on my beliefs that art is more than the objects we create or what we see in a museum; art is the product of who we are. It helps in defining ourselves individually, as a culture, and as a historical era. I continuously push the students to understand, “What makes you different….makes you special.”
I welcome the opportunity for parents to assist in the art room and interact with your child’s class. Please contact me if this is something that you are interested in.
As your child comes home with their artwork ask questions that will guide them into reflecting on their art; what techniques did they use, colors they selected, what the focus was on, etc. Encourage them to engage in conversations regarding specific artist or styles. These discussions will support a sense of pride in their work and instills appreciation for the world of visual arts.
And most of all….be sure to encourage their creativity and to display their creations at home!!!
